The most sustainable approach to materials management

Smart Reuse

Products in the Smart Reuse program meet the criteria for a long lifespan. The program then allows the material to be reprocessed directly by the manufacturer.
By reducing dependence on new raw materials and reducing waste, you too can make a big positive impact with a small act. And protect thus our world.

How to

1. Install the MIWA app

Download the MIWA mobile app from the Apple or Google store. It will allow you to use the Smart Reuse program, but also to shop from the MIWA system and take advantage of related benefits.

2. Register your Smart Reuse product

Open the MIWA app on your mobile phone and bring your phone closer to the chip that the product is equipped with. This will register the product in the app and it will appear on your virtual shelf.

3. Keep using your product!

Enjoy the product as much and as long as possible.

4. Return it according to the instructions and receive rewards

Once you have no more use for the product, the app also shows you how to return it to the manufacturer and how to get rewarded.

MIWA Smart Cups are one of the first products included in the Smart Reuse program. The containers - reusable packaging - are manufactured in the Czech Republic and their individual parts are made of recyclable mono-material. Users who buy, for example, their favorite granola in them can use them for further shopping from MIWA dispensers. Thanks to the NFC chip, they can register their container in the MIWA application and thus have the opportunity to return it directly to the manufacturer after repeated use. MIWA then produces new containers from these containers for further use.

Smart Reuse Principles

Circularity and take-back guarantee
For products with the Smart Reuse label, the manufacturer guarantees their take-back for the purpose of efficient processing and reuse of the material, e.g. for the production of a new item. Products with this logo will not end up as anonymous waste, but will be reprocessed at their best.

Traceability and designation of origin
Thanks to smart technology, the manufacturer has all the key information for processing the material during the return. At the same time, registration in the MIWA consumer application alerts the user to the possibility and method of return.

Sustainable design
The Smart Reuse logo identifies products that have a long lifespan and are designed for maximum recycling efficiency. This means, for example, that they are easily disassembled into individual components and that they are made of only one material to the greatest extent possible. Local production and processing are preferred.

Consumer incentives
The system rewards users to use products as much/as long as possible and at the end of their life, return them directly to the manufacturers instead of throwing them away in municipal waste.

We consume a huge number of products and materials for our daily lives. Most of them are made from primary raw materials, including non-renewable ones.

Moreover, when they reach the end of their useful life, they become waste for us, and therefore a problem to solve. And because recycling has very limited possibilities and results in today's setting (for example, only 2% of plastics are effectively recycled worldwide), we must again mainly resort to primary raw materials to produce a new product. With all the negative consequences for the climate and the environment.

However, if the material is returned directly to the manufacturer instead of being thrown away in the municipal waste stream (in a so-called closed material loop), its further use is most efficient and the product thus becomes a source of valuable secondary raw materials.

And this is exactly what products with the Smart Reuse label meet.
