MIWA comments on the new European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation

MIWA was founded because the current predominant system of disposable packaging is not sustainable. Packaging is the largest consumer of virgin materials in the EU, accounting for 50 % of paper consumption and 40 % of plastic consumption. Packaging also accounts for more than a third of municipal solid waste.

The EU's Circular Economy Action Plan has set a target for packaging to be either reusable or at least recyclable by 2030. In order to put this plan into practice, a major revision of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) began discussions in Brussels in the spring.

MIWA Technologies welcomes this legislative change and has been actively involved in the consultation. The so-called Position Paper submitted to the European Commission can be read or downloaded in PDF below.
